Ellen Whiteman
Ellen is 17 and a senior at Brainerd High School where she maintains very high grade point average. Along with her academic studies she is very involved in high school sports, she is a star hockey player, member of the Brainerd High School Track team, and has participates in soccer for many years. Ellen has been extremely active in the Brainerd high school Interact Club where she participated in highway cleanup and other community focused activities of this group. She has been a member of the school class cabinet, which develops and coordinates school services and activities such as Homecoming, Winter Fun Week, Prom, etc. She is also a member of the Spanish Club and tutors Spanish to the youngster in the Fun & friends Program. Ellen recently returned from a school sponsored trip to Peru, South America after she successful completed the fund-raising needed to pay for her trip. Ellen is also very involved in her community and has volunteered countless hours to making our community a better place with her involvement at the local soup kitchen, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, working to organize Christmas family adoptions with her involvement in her local church, Nisswa Lutheran Church of the Cross where she also is a very active youth leader, she was a youth representative on the Pastoral Call Committee when they hired their last pastor, she is a vacation Bible School leader, participated in the Interfaith Hospitality Network which provides housing and meals to homeless families. Ellen has taken mission trips to Boston where she worked with autistic persons, and volunteered at a shelter for persons with chemical addiction. She took a trip to Montana where she participated in children's programming and painted houses on an Indian Reservation. Ellen is an extraordinary young women who loves to contribute daily to her community and this makes Ellen a true example of caring and a good example of one of our area Kids With Heart. Ellen has chosen Brekken's as her store of choice and receives a $100.00 gift card for there.
