Chinyere Okoro
Chinyere was 17 and a junior at TMI where volunteerism is a part of the school curriculum. Chinyere participated in various events that benefited the disadvantaged in different parts of San Antonio. As a TMI cheerleader, she participated in a Diabetes walk, clothing and food drive.
Chinyere is a part of the youth group a New Creation Christian Fellowship where she participates in the feeding and offering clothing items to the men, women and children of the Nolan Street Bridge and the East Side. She has participated in this since she was in elementary school.
Chinyere is also a part of the San Antonio Chapter of Jack and Jill where volunteering and civic work is part of being a member. Since 2001 to 2009, Chinyere has participated in feeding the homeless. Susan Komen's Race For The Cure is another organization that she has supported with her group. Chinyere and her group have participated in "Support the Troops" with letters of encouragement program. Christmas 2008, Chinyere participated in the "National Operation Christmas Child" program where a shoe box is filled with gifts for children in Third World Countries around the world and in Mexico. She and her members have also volunteered at SAMM Shelter.
When the family went on a trip to Nigeria, Chinyere and her siblings asked if they could bring things for the poor children there in Nigeria; the family incorporated a mission trip on this visit. Chinyere and her siblings collected used clothing and asked many organizations for donations of hygiene products that were packaged in zip lock bags and given away to the children in the village.
Chinyere is a firm believer in the saying: "To whom much is given, much is expected". Charity of choice: St. Peter - St. Joseph Children's Home.
