Joel Vargas
Joel Vargas is an 11 year old student from Madison Elementary School. Madison Elementary lost one of its beloved teacher's aides, who unexpectedly passed away leaving her husband and three young children. As President of the Madison Student Council, and moved by her death and the needs of the family, Joel suggested that the Student Council donate money it had raised for soccer equipment to the family. He also proposed to the Student Council that it start a Student Store that he helped run every Friday afternoon and all the proceeds were donated to the family. Joel is always seeking out opportunities to help out his classmates and the Madison community. Joel received a $500 check from Paseo Colorado to be given to St. Jude Cancer Research Center for Children, the charity of his choice, and a Romero Britto "For You" miniature sculpture in recognition of the Romero Britto art exhibition on display at Paseo Colorado in May. He also received a $ 100 Paseo Colorado gift card.
