Jordan Mitzel
Jordan Mitzel, the 2009 grand prize winner, is a 10 year old boy who raises money for AIDS Walk Charlotte. Jordan's prize, a $500 donation to the charity of his choice, will go to RAIN, Inc. - the Regional Aids Interfaith Network & Aids Walk Charlotte event. Jordan works tirelessly all year long by collecting empty aluminum cans, old cell phones and empty printer cartridges from neighbors, friends and teachers. He recycles these items to get his seed money for the AIDS WALK. He then asks others to assist him in his fundraising efforts by requesting that they make a donation to the organization. He also "flocks" peoples yards with plastic and cardboard flamingos, and then asks for a donation to send the flock to another home. People actually look forward to having the flamingos sent to them, and often request that they be sent to someone's home for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary. Jordan also participates in events such as Jump Rope for Heart, and helps his family sponsor a child in Africa. He loves to get letters from and talk about the boy his family assist in Tanzania.
